Although our focus here at Melbourne's Underground Strength Gym is on training athletes, We do have some clients who's main focus is weight-loss. The principle is the same whether we're getting an athlete super strong or helping someone obtain the body of their dreams. Results is the only thing that counts (stay tuned for some awesome testimonials very soon... )
Why do I bring this up? If there's one thing that downright pisses me off, it's the mis-information that exists about weight loss..
If you need to get rid of unwanted body fat, following the latest fad diet, or any diet for that matter is not going to cut it! It is true that, You can lose weight without doing any exercise. The problem is, you could end up looking like the saggy baggy elephant. Do you remember that classic Golden Book from when you were a kid? Just take a look at these photos below.

O.K. it's unlikely you'll end up looking like the second picture, but you get the point.
On the flip side of the coin, there are those who don't want to change what they are eating and just try to exercise their way to a leaner and meaner figure. Now, this may work for you if you have countless hours each day to train. But for those of us who have a job (read NOT a dole bludger), family etc we have precious spare hours each day as it is.
Don't believe me. Check out the video clip below. Sumo wrestlers are some of the fittest athletes in the world. They train for hours each day, but as you well know THEY ARE STILL FAT!
You NEED both 1) A good nutrition plan, 2) Functional fitness program to lose FAT properly and have a healthy body.
I say "nutrition plan" rather than diet, because it's got to be something you can follow for the long term. Otherwise you when you go back to your old eating habits, you'll also end up going back to the old FAT you.
Why "Functional fitness?" Can't I just do aerobic classes or run on the treadmill? Well for one there are much more effective ways to exercise for fat-loss (that's a topic for another blog entry). You need a program that is going to tighten your skin in all areas and get you stronger all over. Stronger you = being able to do more things easier and enjoy life to the full.
